Endometriosis
This disorder occurs when tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus, called the endometrium, grows outside of the uterus. It can cause pain, sometimes severe, during menstruation, and can affect fertility. Treatment options include over-the-counter pain relievers, prescription hormone therapy, or even surgery, all of which have obvious drawbacks.
Pain Associated with Fibrocystic Breast Disease (FBD)
There are about 26 million women in the U.S. today with FBD, an often painful condition with limited options for symptomatic relief beyond chronic use of NSAIDs, and a short-term prescription therapy burdened with many side effects. Patients report that FBD pain is a serious problem that interferes with their sexual and physical activities, as well as work.
Urinary Incontinence
This condition, also known as Overactive Bladder or OAB, affects more than 20 million women in this country, and has significant lifestyle implications. Current therapies include oral anticholinergics and antispasmodics that are only marginally effective and are associated with a variety of unpleasant side effects.
